Question 1

What is Chess: Same Piece Capture Only?

Accepted Answer

Chess: Same Piece Capture Only is a free offline chess variant for iPhone and iPad. The board and checkmate rules stay familiar — but non-king pieces can only capture matching piece types, which forces fresh calculation every game.

Question 2

How do captures work in this chess variant?

Accepted Answer

Non-king pieces can only capture their own kind (queen takes queen, knight takes knight, and so on). The king still captures normally under standard king rules (except the enemy king). Everything else plays like regular chess.

Question 3

Is Chess: Same Piece Capture Only free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Download it free on iPhone and iPad from the App Store. Human vs CPU, pass-and-play, clocks, and the capture-rule tutorial are included.

Question 4

Does Chess: Same Piece Capture Only work offline?

Accepted Answer

Yes. After install, human vs CPU and pass-and-play work without Wi‑Fi — useful for travel, cafes, or anywhere signal is weak.

Question 5

Who is this chess variant for?

Accepted Answer

Players who already know chess and want calculation muscles tested again — club players, students, or anyone tired of the same opening patterns. Built by a national champion (Nationals 2001) who still plays near 2000 ELO.
